You need this: Karen Murrell's moisture.stick
You’ll all heard me rave about local girl-done-good Karen Murrell’s new range of certified organic skincare and natural lipsticks, which those in the know are going really quite bonkers over. I’ve been hard at work finding my own personal favourites in the truly delicious range, and my latest comes in the form of a seemingly rather humble lip balm. Called simply moisture.stick, it is a natural lip balm treatment conditioner that is pure hydration in a stick. This is the goodie we all need in our pockets or handbags as the temperatures drop, as it’s an absolute essential for keeping your lips looking great throughout the Winter. Great to use overnight as an intense lip treatment, you can also apply it over lipstick as a lip-gloss and lip plumper. It also works a treat on unruly eyebrows, and I’ve been known to slick it onto my cuticles at times, too. It works by creating a protection barrier against harsh weather -hot or cold – by drawing on the properties of a unique set of ingredients. Candelilla, carnauba and beeswax combine to provide structure and adhesion, whilst jojoba gives a moisture hit and an emollient feel. The gloss comes from castor oil and avocado, evening primrose and calendula oil blend to deeply moisturise and condition. I love this little stick of goodness and can’t recommend it enough. Oh, and it looks cute, too!
Your freshest face from a Kiwi cleanser
Is there anything more honest than a completely clean face? It reveals the truest you. And whether or not you let everyone see you naked from the neck up, we all have to wash our faces every day. And thanks to Karen Murrell, the method can be as pure as the result. Inspired by her ancestors, New Zealand settlers who made their own skincare products, Karen Murrell puts as many organic ingredients into her products as possible, and Pure Honesty Cleansing Gel is no exception. This 75% organic, 99.5% natural face wash gently removes dirt and makeup while depositing the beneficial oils of tamanu, manuka, lemon, lime, rose and geranium bourbon. Carrageenan, olive leaf and witch hazel extracts make for a clarifying and fortifying formula. With this captivating botanical blend, you may find you love the look and feel of your bare face so much that you skip makeup more often! We think Karen Murrell is going to hit the U.S. in a huge way, but until then, you can be among the first in-the-know Americans to use her prettily packaged products by ordering from New Zealand's Net Pharmacy, which is happy to ship internationally.
Murrell, a former model whose grandmother taught her how to make natural soaps and face creams, has taken her operation upscale this time around, creating an eponymous skincare and cosmetics range that combines "aesthetic appeal and outstanding quality with conscience." Certified-organic ingredients and formulas free of parabens, preservatives, artificial colorants, artificial fragrances, petrochemicals, harsh detergents, talc, and other toxic ingredients are on her agenda - a common one these days, in the ever greening beauty industry. What sets Murrell's line apart is its adorable 100 percent biodegradable packaging made of corn resin, as well as a few standout products, including her Absolute Luxury facial cream, which hydrates with a matte finish and can double as a primer, and her candelilla wax and evening primrose oil-infused lipsticks. No word as to whether the collection will be hitting our shores anytime soon (Barneys, Bendel's, are you listening?), but if a trip to Paris-or New Zealand-isn't in your future, you can buy online here. The international shipping charges are well worth it.
I think this new range is great. It's hard for me to pick a favourite out of all the products, but if I had to pick one, it would be the moisturiser. More on it (and all the other products) below). Here's the lowdown on the products:
It's gentle, but cleanses thoroughly. I only need to use a little bit, so I can see the tube lasting for a long time. Any skin type could use it, but it contains seaweed and witch hazel, which are both beneficial to oily and combination skin. Using it in combination with the moisturiser has helped my skin clear up (I had previously been getting a few pimples). It smells nice and fresh.
A nice, light moisturiser with a lovely scent. It moisturises well, but doesn't clog pores, and I find I only need to use a small amount. I have combination skin, and it's good to have a moisturiser that is non pore-clogging, but still, well, moisturises! It contains tamanu oil, a 'miracle ingredient' which accelerates new tissue growth.
I gave this to my brother-in-law, and he likes it. This also contains tamanu oil.
This is really good for dry cuticles, lips, or dry skin, really. Smells and tastes great too. Ingredients include cocoa butter.
This is a great moisturising scrub, ideal for using before applying fake tan. Contains tamanu oil, salt and oat flakes.
A good, nourishing lip balm that smells great, thanks to the sweet orange essential oil. I find that I don't need to apply it all that often. Contains jojoba and castor oil.
The lipstick is available in four shades: Cordovan Natural (beige nude), pink starlet (bright pink), Red Shimmer (bright red), Violet Mousse (nudey pink). The shades are fairly matte, but the lipsticks are moisturising, including ingredients such as jojoba and castor oil. The lipsticks smell really amazing, probably due to the cinnamon oil in them. I really like all the colours, but my favourite is Violet Mousse.
I very much recommend the Karen Murrell range, it's good to have another great New Zealand natural skincare range available.
"Pouting glamourously with Karen Murrell Red Shimmer Lippie... While browsing Helene Ravlich's beauty blog; Pretty Beautiful;, I came across her rave about Karen Murrell's moisture stick and knew I had to get my hands on this hot new beauty range. I'm in love with pretty much the entire range to be honest, but today, on this dreary Friday I'm loving the Red Shimmer Lippie for its ability to brighten up the gloom. Murrell's website states that;a woman consumes an average of nearly two kilos of lipstick during her lifetime; through daily tasks such as eating, drinking and kissing! And if you're going to eat any lippie, this one would have to be on your preferred list surely; with no mineral oils, animal based material, parabens or preservatives; and it still smells/tastes great. I also love it because it's the first red lippie that I've been able to apply in one smooth motion, from the first time I took it out of the packet and feel polished rather than like a practicisng clown. $25 from stockists like these guys.
"Our favourite: Karen Murrell True Miracle Balm... I’ve been a Lucas Paw Paw ointment gal for years – there aren’t many twenty/thirty somethings who haven’t toted around the little red tube in their bag. I wouldn’t say I was a die-hard fan and there was that stink that it wasn’t all natural a few years back, but I just kept coming back to it as it did the job. And really, what more can you ask for? Then a little tube of joy came into my life; Karen Murrell’s True Miracle Intense Balm with Beeswax, Honey and Cocoa Butter (see them in their deliciousness below) designed to be smothered across lips, knees, elbows or elsewhere. After a few moments, your natural body heat will send the balm’s solid ingredients into action – kind of like how when you spread honey onto toast and it goes all luscious and shiny.
"I've been hearing about it for a long while now - usually in "raving fan" type tones - but I've only just got my grubby little mitts on the new range by Karen Murrell. Free from nasties, her products also tick all of the boxes when it comes to ethical, sustainable business practices too, but do they live up to the hype? Well in my humble opinion the bodycare products certainly do, and my favourite so far is Nature's Essence. KM skincare products for the body protect, nourish and hydrate all at the same time, and this exfoliating body scrub removes dry and damaged skin while providing instant hydration. Thus, it's essentially a two-in-one product: as the salt exfoliates, the oats soften the skin and prepare it for rich tamanu oil and other powerful moisturising properties. It's also got a rather exotic natural fragrance that is great for people with fragrance intolerances, and the packaging isn't too shabby, either. Like it!"
"...the colors are indeed beautiful and the lipsticks are emollient due to natural plant-based oils (evening primrose and castor oils). For those who put a premium on natural and organic products in their cosmetics, I encourage you to try Karen Murrell."
"The KM Lipstick range features five gorgeous perfect-pout shades in Cordovan Natural, Pink Starlet, Red Shimmer, and Violet Mousse. The range would not be complete without the KM Moisture Stick to provide full-lip care and luster to your pout. What is très fabulous, is that each KM Lipstick is made entirely out of natural ingredients. Entirely. This includes the Lipstick canisters which will start dissolving back into Mother Earth within 100 days, how eco chic! There are no nasties contained anywhere, and with each woman consuming on average two kilograms of lipstick during her lifetime it's a relief to know that what you're swallowing is not bad for you.. ;) The KM Lipstick range also fuses Mother Nature's miracle ingredients in each hue, so the more you apply the better condition your lips will be and the lips of who is blessed enough to get your kiss!"
"The packaging is beautiful. The smells are wonderfully different (frankincense, grape seed, geranium, yum!). The scrub is gentle and actually moisturising. The lipsticks compare well with even heavy weight brands like MAC. The moisturiser leaves skin feeling very soft and natural - no greasy residue."
"Certified organic skincare at its very best! This smells divine and leaves my skin so clean but not tight like others..."
"Its certified by internationally recognized certification organization and has sustainability at heart"
"I have found My Lipstick. For years, I have searched and no doubt ingested the oft-quoted two kilos of lippie in the hunt. Now I have found her. I also loved the Absolute Luxury face moisturiser. I have been suffering from hayfever allergies this summer and everything burns on my raw skin and this is the first moisturiser I tried that has felt soothing rather than stinging and not abrasive on my damaged skin. Packaging wise, I liked the face moisturiser's matte and shiny two tone black pump bottle best out of the range, as pumps are always so much easier to dispense - especially in the shower - than the tubes with screw lids of the cleanser and body scrub."
